Skin Tag Removal with Fine Wire Diathermy

Skin tags are small, soft growths that commonly develop where skin rubs against skin or clothing. They are benign and often occur on the neck, eyelids, underarms and groin.

Although skin tags are harmless, some people choose to have them removed if they become irritated or for cosmetic reasons. Clayton Dermatology offers fine wire diathermy as a precise method of skin tag removal.

Signs and Symptoms

Skin tags are usually:

  • Soft, flesh-coloured growths
  • Attached by a narrow stalk
  • Found in areas of friction
  • Generally painless, although they can become irritated

Treatment Options

Fine wire diathermy uses a very fine heated wire to carefully remove skin tags while minimising damage to surrounding tissue.

Treatment is performed in the clinic and is usually quick, with minimal downtime. Depending on the number of skin tags present, several may be treated during a single appointment.

Before treatment, your dermatologist will examine the lesions to confirm they are benign and suitable for removal.

When to See a Dermatologist

While skin tags are usually harmless, any uncertain or changing skin growth should be assessed by a dermatologist.

If your skin tags become irritated, catch on clothing or jewellery, or you would like them removed for cosmetic reasons, our dermatologists can discuss the most appropriate treatment options.
